ISLAMABAD: The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) on Friday said that River Kabul was flowing in medium flood at Warsak and low flood at Nowshera.
According to an FFC report, all main rivers including Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej were flowing normal. The actual river flows and reservoir indicates that Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs are at elevations of 1508.04 feet and 1215.05 feet respectively –41.96 feet and 26.95 feet below their maximum conservation levels.
The combined live storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma and Mangla reservoirs is 9.720 MAF as compared to last year’s 8.968 MAF. According to the Flood Forecasting Division, yesterday’s trough of Westerly Wave over North of Afghanistan lies over Northeastern Afghanistan and adjoining areas.
Well marked seasonal low lies over Northeastern Balochistan with its trough extending Northeast wards, whereas moist current from Bay of Bengal is penetrating into upper parts of the country up to 2000 feet and is likely to intensify during the next 24 hours.
The division also predicted isolated thundershowers occurring over Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Malakand and Hazara Divisions including upper catchments of all major rivers during the next 24 hours.
Widespread thunderstorms of moderate intensity, isolated heavy falls along and strong winds may also occur over Sahiwal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Dera Ghazi Khan, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan Divisions, besides urban flooding in big cities and flash flooding in vulnerable areas during the same period.
