NEW YORK: Pakistan’s permanent ambassador to the UN Dr Maleeha Loddhi said on Thursday that Pakistan’s interests would be safeguarded in talks of all kinds with the new US administration.
In an interview with a private TV channel, she said that the future strategy would have to be evolved after seeing what would be the new administration’s foreign policy priorities.
“Foreign policy is subordinate to national interests. We will protect Pakistan’s interests in every kind of dialogue process with the new US administration. We will desire that the new US administration acknowledges Pakistan’s interests,” she said.
Lodhi said that the US foreign policy had been out of balance for sometime. “However, the Trump administration will have to pursue a balanced policy,” she said. The ambassador said that the US had fought a long war in Afghanistan and now they would have to explore opportunities for peace besides resolving the problem through dialogue.
